Without fail, when I reveal to someone that I recently moved from San Diego to Tucson, their response is an incredulous, WHY? Understandable. San Diego is one of the most desirable hometowns on the planet. While cost of living was a factor, there was a more profound motivation behind the relocation.

During my 30 years in San Diego, I established many cherished relationships, favored haunts and restaurants, and developed an appreciation for living in a technologically and culturally cutting-edge community. Life was good.

The Backwards World of Self-Criticism

As a young aspiring professional athlete and later, a dedicated business builder, I was driven, unsatisfied and self-critical. I’ve observed that condition in many would-be high achievers. 

A recent NY Times article stated, “Self-criticism can take a toll on our minds and bodies,” said Dr. Richard Davidson, founder and director of the Center for Healthy Minds at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also teaches psychology and psychiatry. “It can lead to ruminative thoughts that interfere with our productivity, and it can impact our bodies by stimulating inflammatory mechanisms that lead to chronic illness and accelerate aging…”

So, here we are at the launch of my long-avoided blog. I’ve come around to the idea that this can be interesting, educational, therapeutic (for me at least), funny and soul nourishing. Maybe not all at the same time, though I will do my best.  

You will find here stories of life, work, and pursuit of higher purpose. I promise candid sharing of my learnings in all their profundity, silliness, pain and unexpectedness. I’ll be addressing conscious leadership and conscious living, developing and nurturing relationships, meaningful work, fulfillment, wellbeing, and the interconnectivity of all these things.
