In business and elsewhere, logical thinking is praised and admired. Rightfully so, as it is the ability to rationalize that elevates humankind.
However, when logical analysis is the sole input in a decision-making process, opportunities are missed and mistakes are made. Incorporating creativity, inspiration and wellbeing into an analytical process ensures an optimal conclusion. These “soft” inputs are not found in the thinking part of the mind – they are delivered by intuition and sensed by feeling.
Dictionary.com defines intuition as, the act or faculty of knowing or sensing without the use of rational processes; immediate cognition. Intuition is more commonly known as a gut feeling or hunch.
Successful entrepreneurs, artists, inventors, virtuosos of any activity and (in general) women are groups notoriously well-connected with their intuition. These parties are said to be in touch with their feelings or to “have a good feel” for their specialty.
Here are some commonly accepted characteristics of intuition:
- Intuition is always right (in terms of the ultimate wellbeing of all)
- Intuitive guidance comes in “digital” form (yes/no, true/false, go/don’t go, etc.)
- Intuition communicates through feelings and the physical body
- Intuitive guidance is available to everyone, all the time
- Natural aptitude for accessing intuitive guidance varies by individual
- With practice, anyone can increase awareness and receptivity to intuition
Applying intuitive Truth can dramatically improve the results of decision-making. However, decisions that are made solely on intuition may also miss the mark. That’s because intuitive guidance is only as useful as the appropriateness of the question being asked. In other words, a problem may be unsatisfactorily resolved because the wrong question was well-answered!
The quality of data and reasoning determine the relevance of the question to which intuition responds.
In all things, The Universe leads us towards balance. In my experience, the balance between intuition (being/receiving) and reason (doing/thinking) foretells the value of a decision.
Important to note is that there are no unimportant decisions in life…
Choice produces Action
Action creates Events
Events reveal how purposefully life is being lived!
I encourage clients to use equally balanced inputs of analysis and intuition in their decision-making process. Through increased awareness, practice and coaching; clients improve their ability to make life-enhancing and business-enhancing choices. |
